God's Not Dead

Oh It's been a while since I last posted a movie review. I think there's none for this year yet, so this would be my first entry. I am grateful to have "God's Not Dead" be reviewed. 

Synopsis: 
Presentday college freshman and devout Christian, Josh Wheaton (Shane Harper), finds his faith challenged on his first day of Philosophy class by the dogmatic and argumentative Professor Radisson (Kevin Sorbo). Radisson begins class by informing students that they will need to disavow, in writing, the existence of God on that first day, or face a failing grade. As other students in the class begin scribbling the words “God Is Dead” on pieces of paper as instructed, Josh find himself at a crossroads, having to choose between his faith and his future. Josh offers a nervous refusal, provoking an irate reaction from his smug professor. Radisson assigns him a daunting task: if Josh will not admit that “God Is Dead,” he must prove God’s existence by presenting well-researched, intellectual arguments and evidence over the course of the semester, and engage Radisson in a head-to-head debate in front of the class. If Josh fails to convince his classmates of God’s existence, he will fail the course and hinder his lofty academic goals. With almost no one in his corner, Josh wonders if he can really fight for what he believes. Can he actually prove the existence of God? Wouldn’t it just be easier just to write “God Is Dead” and put the whole incident behind him? GOD’S NOT DEAD weaves together multiple stories of faith, doubt and disbelief, culminating in a dramatic call to action. The film will educate, entertain, and inspire moviegoers to explore what they really believe about God, igniting important conversations and life-changing decisions. The movie 
The movie was great. Call me bias for rating the movie a great one. But since I seldom see christian movies on big screen, I appreciate it all. And God's Not Dead is a must see movie. 

This scene actually made me cry. I heard a lot of stories about followers of Christs who have been persecuted by everybody, but I guess, the most painful persecution a Christian could experience is when he is persecuted by his own parents.  And I admire the girl on this story. She boldly told her dad that she will not declare any god because there's no other God than Jesus, her Lord and Savior. And this reminds me of what's written in the bible.  Whoever acknowledges me before me, I will also acknowledges him before my father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will also disowns him before my father in heaven. Matthew 10:32-33

Magnificent Maleficent Movie!!

If you haven't watched Maleficent, I highly recommend to watch this movie before all your social media friends spoil you. The movie has nailed to be magnificent. From the plot and twist up to Angelina Jolie's comeback. I wont spoil you but I'll tell what I learned from the movie.

There's only one thing that  change the way I look about it. Bad People are not bad at all. There's a certain reason why they treat other people badly. And that is the same with our daily lives. You have your maleficent in the office, in your community, even in your own home. But, they if they're treating you bad, it doesn't necessary mean that they are really evil and they cant change.

What's the reason why people change? Love. Love is always a  powerful weapon for all of us to change. Bad people, as we see them as they are. Are not bad at all. They just need love. So matter how hurtful they treat you. Love them anyway. As Mother Theresa said “People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered. Love them anyway"

Thor: The Dark World Movie Review

Synopsis: 

Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all. (source) 

I was one of the winners in Nuffnang and Globe's Thor Movie Screening.  I was able to watch it on it's premier night, and in 3D. 

Thor Movie reminds me of: 

1. No big enemy can defeat a great warrior. 

I posted it on my previous blog that we are all facing a battle (financially, spiritually, emotionally and mentally). And in every battle, we are fighting an enemy. Thor reminds me that no big enemy can defeat a prepared warrior. Yes, you read it right. Prepared warrior. If you will watch Thor, you can see that all their warriors are on training even before the enemy comes. They are aware that the enemy will attack anytime. That's the attitude that we need to possess, to be prepared in attack everytime. 

2. Your weakness, will make make you strong

It's a very usual scene in any movies, that once the enemy killed one of the relatives of the main actor. It inspires him to be strong to defeat his enemy. 

I will give it  4/5 stars. It was a good movie and the twist was good as well. I will be waiting for the next sequel.

Man of Hope; Man of Steel Review

What if you become more than what the society wants you to be? What if, you give more than what you already have? 

Synopsis:

A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind. -- (C) Warner Bros

Crypton was world  where everyone was trained according to what will be they are in the future, until, Clark Kent raised in a different world where he could be more that what the society intended him to be. 

Lesson Learned:

• The Higher the Calling, The Deeper the Fall - It's not new issue that all those who were called to be great encountered the most painful experience. Those, who were destined for greatness struggled more. Just like what Clark experienced, from the very start, he was bullied, He is destined for greatness, and so he have learned to be humble and serve his people with humility. 
• In Becoming Someone Great- Is not about your self. It's not about self-promotion. It is about touching and inspiring the lives of others. 
• Genuine Concern- Zod, is living for the lives of his people, he breathes to protect them. His desires drive him to hurt others just to protect his people. It is useless. Protecting Your own people for the expense  of others.
• Waiting for the Right Time- Clark discovered his power even before he a was child. But He didn't use his power because his dad told him so. His father keep of reminding him hat there will be right time before he let the  world knows  who he is (But it breaks my heart when he let his father died because he didn't use power to save him. ) Well I guess that's why waiting is always painful
• There is HOPE. No matter how hopeless the situation may be, there is hope. There will be always a light. There will always someone to save us. 

My favorite part of this movie was when, Jol-Er, sent his only son on earth. It sounds like John 3:16 When God ( who loves us so much) gave his only son to save us. 

 You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders. -Jol-Er

EPIC Review

I'm not a fan of animated movie not until I watched couple of Walt Disney Movies. What i waited for any animated movies is that, the scene that will make my heart melt; the touching scenes. My first ever animated movie that I watched this year was Epic. 

Synopsis: 

EPIC is a 3D CG adventure comedy that reveals a fantastical world unlike any other. From the creators of ICE AGE and RIO, EPIC tells the story of an ongoing battle between the forces of good, who keep the natural world alive, and the forces of evil, who wish to destroy it. When a teenage girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she teams up with an elite band of warriors and a crew of comical, larger-than-life figures, to save their world...and ours.

Epic was good, but it didn't bring justice to the it's title. It wasn't an epic movie. But what I love the movie is this

Lessons: 

• I just hope all fathers will do all their responsibilities as a father. Providing. Loving their sons/daughters. 
• It takes courage reach your dream 
• Taking care of what we have

Even the Strongest Man Became Weak; Iron Man 3 Review

The awaited Iron Man has been released and it is now showing. Glad that I was one of those who watched in on time for free. Thanks to Nuffnang Philippines for the free movie screening. 


I didn't actually watched the previous Iron Man, but what I told myself, I shouldn't miss watching it's third series. 

So here's the 3 important lesson's I learned from watching Iron Man 3

• Woman. I don't know if I'm the only one who has this same observation in every movies. There's always the strong man, and behind him is a woman.

• Fears. Even the strongest man has a fear. And his common fear is that, he's afraid that everyone will notice that he's not that strong enough. But the real man will accept that he has weakness too. 
•  Identity. This is one of movie highlights. Actually, in the end the movie, Tony stark said "You can take away my house, my toys, but one thing you can never take away from me, I am Iron man"

I dont want to be biased in writing this review, but it's a fact that we can not resist. Every walt disney movie is a "wow movie". They continue to prove that fantasy never gets old! 

The lessons I learned from the movie: 

• The only person who can unleash your potential as a great person is YOU!
• Hatred and jealousy leads to destruction. 
• You do not have to pretend to be somebody else just to be recognized. 
• Faith. Perseverance and Determination is the key to success.

Fix it Ralph!

Synopsis:

Here are some lessons I got from the movie:

• The perfect place for you. You don't need to be somebody else to be  happy. Where you are is the perfect place God put you. Use your full potentials to do your purpose. 
• Stepping out of your comfort zone. Sometimes, we remain who we are because we're afraid to try. There's always better things stored for us. You just need to step out of our comfort zone. 
• Fix it Ralph. No matter how useless who think you are, there will always be perfect situation that will let you fix what you destroy.

The truth is, the prize is just a motivation to try harder. Your attitude and strategy how to get the prize is more important than the prize itself. 

Anyways, it was my first time to watch an animated movie. But yeah. It's all worth it. The movie was so great!

Forever, breaking dawn part 2

I am not a twilight avid fan. I only watched the previous sequel on a reproduced copy. And there's only few things I knew about the movie

• Edward is a vampire
• Jacob is hot
• Bella fell in love with Edward
• Edward and Bella are lovers in real life

While other's are fascinated about the finale of the Twilight. Im just like, Yes. It's fiction, I better watch good-to-be-true movies.  But after winning  a movie pass from Nuffnang, I was enlightened. 

Twilight's Finale exceeded my expectations.  More than romance. I was really amazed on it's finale. It was perfect. The romance is perfect than any other love story movies I've watched. And fight scenes are perfect than with I observe with hunger games.

Taken 2 Review

Short Synopsis

“Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent with a particular set of skills who stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim from Albanian kidnappers. When the father of one of the kidnappers swears revenge, and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape, and uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and systematically take out the kidnappers one by one.” 

I saw the movie focusing on the two sides of the father: The good and bad. 

BAD SIDE

• A heart, that doesn't learn to forgive. That's the characteristic of the kidnapper's father. After his son died, he promised to take revenge against Bryan Mills. He did everything to captive Bryan. 
• Living in the yesterday's pain. The kidnapper's father didn't forget what Bryan did to his son. He thought killing Bryan will lessen the pain of losing his son. 
• No Man's Word.  When Bryan was about to kill the kidnapper's father, he asked him first if he would like to be killed or to live and forget what happened. He chose to to live. But he didn't keep his word and tried to kill Bryan when he got a chance. 

GOOD SIDE

• A loving father. All through out the movie, Bryan showed  love for his family. 
• A father who protects. Bryan did everything to protect his family. Though his aware he could die protecting them, he still willing to sacrifice. 
• A man who lead. 

Revenge would never be a sign of love. Forgiveness is. No matter how painful experience we had in the past, we should learn to forgive and start to live a better life than before.

The Mistress Review

Synopsis:
The Mistress is a Filipino movie. JD (John Lloyd Cruz) is a young self-made architect, who lives his life away from the affluence and influence of his family. He has turned his back from the responsibilities of the family corporation, mostly out of resentment for his philandering father. Can love change JD and give him the strength to fight for Sari? Will Sari have the courage walk away from her benefactor and take the life of freedom that JD is offering? Or will they both learn that some loves are just not meant to be? 

Lesson Learned:

• Pursuing a woman takes time. And sometimes, women say no to men not because she doesn't like him. There's always a reason behind that no. 
• Idolatry would never have a good fruit. 
• If ever a committed man, fall in love with  another woman, he always comes back to the first one he  loves.
• No one ever wanted to be somebody's mistress  To be and not be a mistress is a choice. But in the movie, Sari, chose to be the mistress to pay back the gratitude of the benefactor. 
• If the father shows love from the very beginning, his son won't be miserable. It's his love that his son has been looking for.

9/10 For this movie. Actors are all good. I just don't love the concept of the movie. Movies in the local industry all about having a mistress. It may give a wrong message to the younger generation. But! JLC is so hot and I cant resist to watch.

Synopsis:

In no time, Lane is punching the clock, and juggling boyfriends. But while Tom (Michael McMillan) and Seth (Matt Dallas) are both plenty of fun, charming music producer Liam (Chris Carmack) is the guy who really drives Lane wild. Trouble is, Liam doesn't work in Lane's office, so he's strictly off-limits. Now, with her biggest career goal finally within grasp, Lane must choose to follow her heart, or give in to ambition (source)

In reality, women are making their lists of what real men are and what characteristics should their knight-in-shining-armor has. Some should be; masculine, with the six-packed abs, sexy butt. Some wants a traveler, with the same sense of humor, with a wheels. And some comes up, falling in love with the person, who never possess any characteristics in her listing.

Lesson Learned:

• We can never rush love. It happens the least we expect it. 
• Being in a relationship is decision. 
• Job hunting, working in a unfamiliar environment isn't easy job. 
• Value your friend's advises. When you're blindly inlove, they know what's best for you. 

Love just doesn't happen to girls like me; girls who build their hopes on an intricate web of day dreams. The truth is that everyone has issues and maybe building up a fake, perfect man in my mind was my biggest issue of all. I've been walking around with the ghost of my magic man. He's been haunting me, keeping me from a world of opportunities that were right in front of me... There's no such thing as perfection. Love is for people who are realistic and smart enough to open up their heart and minds and to realize that a real relationship is the ultimate fantasy

It's not bad to write down your  standards about men. Your future lies on your decision of whom you should going out with, to whom you say your sweet yes. I believe God gave you that standard. And for me, real relationship happens.

When in Rome: Late Review

Synopsis:

Beth is a hard working career woman whose last relationship says that she puts her work above him so he left her. When he tells her he found another career woman and is willing to stick it out with her and is engaged to her. Beth feels that there is no one for her. And when she goes to Rome to attend her sister's impromptu wedding and after meeting the best man, Nick she's attracted to him but after seeing him with another woman, she gets drunk and goes into the famed Fountain of Love and takes some coins thrown by people looking for love. When she goes back to New York four men start coming onto her. And Nick keeps calling her asking her out. She later learns that what she did--is a no no. It seems legend says that if you take a coins out of the fountain the person who threw it will fall in love with who took the coin. So she has to find a way to break the curse. And she wonders if Nick whom she likes is with her cause he wants to or is he under the spell. (source)

Have you ever thrown coins to the wishing well? Have ever thought your wish will be granted? Do you believe in magic? The movie When in Rome, tells that the only magic we could ever believe is the magic of love. 

Lesson Learned:

• Because of the pain we experienced from the past, we're now afraid to fall in love again. But love is about taking risk. We couldn't know unless we try. 
• Love is always a decision to make. 
• We don't need to rush love, it will happen. In the right time, in the right place, and with the right person.
• Family occasions should be prioritize over work.

• It seems that the movie is in a world tour. I cant count how many countries I saw in the movie
• The scene where the doctor in the laboratory killed his co workers gave me a goosebumps
• I saw familiar local theater actors in the movie
• Scenes that were shoot in the Philippines are amazing.

They say, we can only appreciate things when they're gone. But the movie click, gives a new view about appreciation of the things that we have. Family, Career, Love Life.

Synopsis:

Michael Newman ( Adam Sandler) is a loving father and husband, but he's got an office and a career he sees more often than his own family. To only make matters worse is a boss who takes everything for granted, including advantage of Michael by dangling a promotion in front of his face. But when one late night trip to a Bed, Bath and Beyond store for a new remote control, Michael finds himself in the possession of a new kind of remote control, developed by an eccentric inventor. A remote control so significant that it allows Michael to be able to fast forward, rewind, pause and practically control all the events in his life. So much to an extent that it becomes a luxury for the overworked man who finally gets some quality time with his family and his life. But not everything lasts forever as Michael is about to find out, when the remote control begins to malfunction, causing Michael to deal with the consequences. (source)

The nature of the father is to work hard so he can provide for the needs of his family. But most of the time, becuase fathers prioritize work, he almost forgot to give the emotional needs of his children, because he believes his wife can do that. He chooses meeting over family outing. He chooses project presention over family dinner. It's not bad to prioritize work, we all do have career in our priority list, but family comes first.

• We all have regrets of the things we didn't do in the past, but good thing is, we can create better things today
• What you are today, is because of the decision you made yesterday
• There's always a better future and it starts today
• Death is inevitable. We dont know when. But we can decide where to go
• Appreciate everything you have right now, becuase it is once you wished to have

It's not bad to prioritize work, we all do have career in our priority list, but family comes first.

Cinemalaya 2012 Entry: Bwakaw Review

The queue is over....

I appreciate Indie Films since then, and so I am waiting for every years Cinemalaya Festival. One of this year's entry for the director's showcase is Bwakaw:

Bwakaw is also a Filipino word means greedy, selfish. I thought the film bwakaw will only a story an old man who was left alone because of his selfishness when he was young. But I was wrong. Bwakaw, is a story of how an old man, loved his dog named bwakaw; which is named because of her behavior. The story rotates on how the old man prepares for the things that he might left when he dies. To whom his all properties be given, where he should be laid, and how to look like when he's already in the coffin. But becuase he prepares things in advance, he didnt reallize that he's losing the real purpse of his life. To be happy while he lives. While other's are struggling for survival, he just waiting for his death.

This is the quotation that I love from the film:

Instead of preparing for the things when you leave, why don't you prepare for the things where you go?

He is planing who will enherit his properties, but he didn't bother to decide where he will go. He conluded that he will go in hell because he is a gay. And he believes that gays are not allowed in heaven. Ohh that's not true. God is accepting repentance. God promised that we will with Him if we obey Him. So while we are still here, we should obey God and his word. Death is inevitable. We will face that. But still have a choice where to go.

Lessons:

• The results of our rebellion usually breaks our heart. (And so Peter Parker's uncle death, when he looked after him when Peter walked out in the middle of the night. )
• Curiosity sometimes leads to trouble
• Man always find a comfort in woman's heart
• Taking revenge won't help you to solve a problem
• The ultimate goal of a man is to defend who he is through his identity.
• Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses.
• You could become a better you though you have a tragic past

The movie:

I cried a lot when Peter's uncle died. For me, its the heartbreaking scene in the movie. The old man died because of him. And my favorite scene is this:

Goosebumps to this scene. It's a scene where people helped Spiderman to defeat his enemy. And here's my favorite quotation from the movie

The Proposal Review

What if one day, you wake up, and you're getting married?

Synopsis:

In New York, Margaret Tate is a successful self-made chief-editor of the Ruick & Hunt Publishing and loathed by her coworkers. Margaret lost her parents when she was sixteen and is tough with the employees of the office. Her executive assistant and aspirant editor Andrew Paxton has been working with her for three years without any recognition. Lesson Learned:

"Love always betrays you" -Ravenna

I can still recall that Ravenna said that to snow white. Does she said right? Does love always betrays us? Hmmm You judge it. But for me, love still greatest above all things. 

Lesson Learned:

• Beauty Fades. Your Personally is more important than your beauty.
• Envy will always lead you in you trouble.
• The good things always prevail.
• How your people works will reflect your leadership. 

Here is  the biblical law that applies in this movie Galatians 6:9 "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up".

M.I.B Review

Synopsis: The MIB duo of Agent Jay (Will Smith) and Agent Kay (Tommy Lee Jones) are back in action. • Over familiarity sometimes lead to complication.
• Do not let your pride ruin your friendship. Learn to accept each other's weaknesses. 
• Focus on your partner's strengths.

M.I.B 3 lacks in action, the movie focuses in valuing partnership. Prepare yourself to that touching scene when Will Smith saw his dad.
