Don't Look Back

Once you step out of the past it's important you don't keep looking over your shoulder to see if it's following you. That's what Lot's wife did and it's paralyzed her. It will paralyze you too. And it will definitely slow you down in the race. Good runners look forward and keep focused on the goal.

Even if you have never had one bad thing happen to your life, or you have been delivered from every negative memory you ever had, you still need to pray to be free of your past. That's because even  the good things of your past can keep you allowing God to do a new thing now. God is always wanting to take you to a new place in your life, and you will keep Him from doing that if you are hanging on to the way things have always been done. He will never allow us to rest on past success. If we rely on the way things have always been done, we aren't relying on Him. And that's the whole point. 

I guarantee that no matter how old you are, God has something new He wants to do on your life. Ask Him to show you what that is. Tell Him you intend to stay in the race and you don't want to carry any baggage from the past around you. Tell Him you want to run in such a way so that you will obtain the prize (1 Corinthians 9:24)

Intended for Good

The reason why God doesn't want to wipe your past completely out of your memory is because He wants to use that part of your life for the work He has called you  to do. He can take the worst thing about your past and make it to be part of greatest blessing in the future. He will weave it into the foundation of your ministry to the world, and out of it you will bring  the life of the Lord to the other people. 

That's why God want you to learn from the past and witness firsthand how He can redeem it, He doesn't want you living there. He wants you to read your past like a history book, not like a prophecy for your future. He wants you to forget those things that are behind you and reach toward to those things which are ahead. (Philippians 3:13)

Many people never get to the future God has for them because they are perpetually stuck in the past. A good example of this are people who have experienced rejection in their past and still fear being rejected now. They expect to be rejected, so they read rejection into other people's words and actions. This causes them to always be hurt, afraid, angry or bitter, it makes them oversensitive to other people's comments. In other words, their fear of rejection causes the very rejection they feared. It becomes an endless cycle. 

Whatever weight from the past you are carrying will be observed by others, even if they don't know what it is. The bad things that happened to us, or the good things that didn't happen to us, will be part of what we wear daily and people will see the total look even if they can't recall the specific details. But God will deliver you from you past and He will use it for His glory if you ask Him to.

Wont go back to the past anymore!

3 months ago, I resigned to my job and applied to the company where I am right now. And as a new employee, of course, I have to learn every transactions, that I will be doing alone in the future. The person whose giving me turnovers, often told me "If you are not sure with your entries, go back to the past transactions"


Many times, if I am not sure with what I'm doing, I just go back to the past, and proceed with my work. But one day, I got tired of looking back. I realized, if from the very start I studied the concept why a certain transaction came up, there's no need for me to go back over and over again. It causes me delays looking back.

And It is the same things that happened in our real life too. As we keep on looking back, it sometimes, wastes our time. And worst is, it could bring us pains. We could never start over if we're not letting go of our past. We could never move forward if we keep looking back. I'm not saying looking back is bad. It will be bad, if it holds you. If you could't move ahead because of it. In accounting, historical transaction is just a reference, not an event to live by.

So what's apostles Paul said about the past? 

Leave what is behind, and strain toward what is ahead.Philippians 3:13

Dont waste you tomorrow's wondering on your yesterdays

Get rid of "losers limps" you're still carrying from your yesterdays. As you do, you'll break the power of the past's domination of your present and it's influence over the future.

In luke 9:62, Jesus said,"No man, having put his hand to be plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God". If we are not careful, we will allow the past to hold us. The more we look backward, the less we are able to look forward. The past is not the only determining factor of what God can do for us today.

That is the beauty of the Christian life. Even when we fail, we can ask for forgiveness and be totally cleansed of and released from our past actions. Whatever hold the past may have on us can be broken. It is never God who holds us back. We hold ourselves back by allowing the past to keep us from living the fullest in the present and future. Failure is waiting around the corner for those who live off of yesterday's successes and failures. We should choose to be forward-focused, not past-possessed. We should learn to profit from the past and to invest in the future.

In Philippians 3:13-14 the apostle Paul wrote:

Brethren, I count on myself to have apprehended but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

The key here is "forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead" in order to reach the "high calling of God in Christ Jesus". To fulfill our calling in Christ, we must first forge what lies behind us. The most common stronghold in peoples' live is probably their past failures and mistakes. Today is the day to shake off the shackles of the past and move forward.

The past is past; it has no life.
